The Gophers would've knocked off #23 Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last night. Playing without Vince G, Munson had his boys motivated for the first stanza, outscoring the Terps 42-36. They held a lead of 15 at one point. They outrebounded, out hustled, and outplayed Maryland. For 20 minutes. The next 20 minutes turned a Gopher lead into a lopsided 83-66 loss. Runs of 15-1 and 11-0 burried the maroon and gold. To add to the loss of VG, Mo Hargrow left the game 9 minutes in with a leg injury.
The highlight of the night though, was at the end of Maryland's 15-1 run to start the second half, Dan Munson got ejected. He was flashing gang signs and swearing at officials. He even "threw down" his coat in protest. I can only imagine he was extremely red in the face. Who wouldn't be? It takes a lot of energy to run 22 feet, yelling, and throwing stuff. I would know, I drink a lot.
The Gophs did more than I would've expected them to do - I expect a 20 point loss, but an uninspired 20 point loss. They played hard, but clearly the talent difference and mustache lengths shone through in the end. As Dan "Lil Crip" Munson put it, "atleast we made Williams sweat a little bit." True, true.
